'Home is your corner of the world'. ♥ (Ilse Crawford) The biggest job of a military spouse is creating your corner of the world, that refuge, that safe haven for the military member to return to. Said Charles Dickens, "Home is a name, a word, it is a strong one; stronger than magician ever spoke, or spirit ever answered to, in the strongest conjuration." It is a big task to undertake--in our current world it's nearly a war in and of itself--to create such a magical sanctuary, to keep the home-fire burning bright while our spouses go out into the world to make the world safer, to make it better. The 48th SFSG recognizes the troubles you face and our hope is to bear you up, to give you a respite (if only once a month) and to give you support in any way we can, so that you in turn can provide that respite and support for your families. We are here to help you win your battles and to be triumphant in your endeavors to create a safe haven within whatever walls you may reside.

Welcome Spouses!
Welcome to the New Year. Your 2011-2012 Board has been hard at work, getting things ready for one ROCKIN' round of spouses' fun.
You'll notice that the blog is fully equipped with a Calendar of events, information about the programs our group has provided and will continue to provide, as well as information for new comers to the 48th SF Squadron. If you check under the Calendar, you'll see we have a few events planned for this summer already and there will be more to come, so please check back often. We'd encourage you to follow the blog, so that you can get regular updates. Also, please friend us on Facebook: Lakenheath SF Spouses and get updates about the group in that way.
The Spouses' Group was already amazing and we are honored to carry on that tradition. And, in the philosophy of Col. Ross, we're striving to make things better than we found them. The first big change: we are going Private. Our paperwork to become a full-fledged Private Organization is in and being reviewed. We should have official P.O. status come July. What does that mean for our group? Well, mostly it means empowerment. We're more fully able to do what it is we do without having to deal with anyone's red tape, but our own. We can organize our own fundraisers, which will help us to have bigger and better socials. And we can take care of each other, as the group was designed, without the need for approval. We love our men and women in uniform, but being able to run on our own two feet without having to have their signatures only makes us stronger.
As part of the new path we are taking, dues will be instated. They are small, just $12 a year to be paid in full at the members second social. *Note that the summer events are not classified as socials and as such dues will not need to be paid until October. You can, however, pay earlier if you prefer.* These dues will be used solely for funding the socials. And the socials will have a different format too, but more on that later :)
For now, we'll leave you knowing we are working hard and are very excited to get this show on the road!
Happy to serve you!
